For many, the absence of the personal essay in the Travel section has felt like the death of friends with whom we’ve corresponded for years. Ms. Sheraton’s musings made me hungry, less for eel and bauernwurst, than for reading about a fellow traveler’s thoughts and adventure. Please bring back the Sunday essay. Roscoe F. Ward.

To the Editor: Regarding“Save or Splurge in London”(April 26): Surely budget travelers can have a more exciting day in London than the one suggested in your recent article. There is no need to eat in chain restaurants and to shop at thrift shops.
